On the 9th of April 2002, MADD Durham, in cooperation with the Durham Regional Police Service Traffic Management Unit, hosted an Alcohol Impairment Workshop. The Workshop took place in the Justice Wing of the Oshawa Campus of Durham College, 2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa.
In December 2001, MADD Canada released a comprehensive review of federal impaired driving legislation entitled Taking Back Our Roads. The review provides the federal government with 19 policy initiatives to strengthen the legislation, making Canada's roads safer and saving lives. A key initiative of the review is to lower the Criminal Code Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Limit from 0.08% to 0.05%.
To demonstrate the importance of this initiative, various media personalities from radio, print, and television were invited to participate in an experiment. The experiment measured the effects of alcohol consumption, and identified the amounts necessary to impair the participant's ability to operate a motor vehicle.
BAC Experiment Results, a report written by Durham Regional P.C. Mark Stone, Vice-President of MADD Durham, is being made available to the public in order to identify and eliminate the misconceptions surrounding alcohol consumption, blood alcohol levels, and driver impairment.
